    Interviews with Sifu Melissa Fung and Madam Shi Mei Lin

    Recently, Wellington instructors Sifu Melissa Fung and Madam Shi Mei Lin were interviewed by Chinese newspaper Homevoice for International Womens Day.
    Sifu Fung, who has made New Zealand her home for the past 25 years, teaches Hung Gar and Hap Gar kung fu. Sifu Fung began learning traditional Chinese martial arts in Guangzhou in 1962 under Master Deng Gum To. A traditional Wushu champion during the 1970s and early 1980s, she was the gold medallist in the ‘Southern Fist’ category at the All China Traditional Martial Arts competition in 1980. In the years to follow she instructed classes for her teacher and was a qualified judge and trainer for the Guangdong Wushu Federation. Sifu Fung is one of two Technical Director’s for Chin Woo NZ.     Madam Shi Mei Lin has also made New Zealand her home for many years and specialises in Wushu and Wu Family Tai Chi. She is the adopted grand daughter of of Wu Yinghua and Ma Yueliang. She has been an international Tai Chi champion and five times an All China National Tai Chi Champion. She has toured with Chinese Wushu teams internationally, including the United States in 1974 when she was part of an elite Chinese Martial Arts Delegation that also included Jet Li (Li Lianjie).   • Chin Woo Wellington Meetup

    Chin Woo Wellington Meetup

    A Chin Woo Wellington meetup will take place on Saturday 7th April (Easter Saturday)- 12pm at Level 1, 45 Courtenay Place.

    We’ll be planning and organising Chinese martial arts activities for the Wellington region.

    Chin Woo have received numerous calls and messages asking for an update on Peter’s condition.

    We are happy to say that his operation last week went very well and he is now making good progress towards his recovery.

    Our thoughts and well wishes are with our Chairman, Sifu Peter Yu, his wife Shirley and his family and students. Peter is currently receiving treatment in Wellington Hospital for a spine injury brought on by a motor vehicle accident. Our sincere hope is that he makes a full and fast recovery.

    8th Chin Woo NZ Competition Results

    On Sunday the 18th of September, Chin Woo NZ held its 8th Annual Chin Woo NZ Wushu Competition at West-Wave Recreation Centre, in Henderson, Auckland, a much larger venue than previous years owing to the growing populartity of the event.

    The competition drew athletes from various schools across the Auckland Region, competing in a variety of contemporary and traditional Wushu taolu.

    With special guests to all the officials who helped to make the event a success, especially the judges, time-keepers, announcer, kiosk helpers and general helpers.

    In December 2002 a 19 strong delegation from Chin Woo New Zealand embarked on a 14 day journey to Hong Kong and Southern China. At the time it was one of the largest Martial Arts delegations from New Zealand to travel to China.
